2011 assessments from 65 homes and 21 associate members have been received so far. We have received a ruling from the IRS regarding the classification of our lifeguards as employees or independent contractors. We have been directed to classify them as employees. This requires submitting quarterly state and federal tax reports which we have been doing for the last two years. Back taxes may be required for some previous years. Title companies have inquired on balances due on three properties; 121 SW 299th PL, 29916 2nd Ave SW and 30018 2nd Ave SW. We expect some unpaid assessments will be recovered soon.

The 2010 federal income tax return has been submitted by Marks & Marks accountants.

Your Incentive: remember that 3 hours of your time will earn you a$50 refund on your dues. Plus, we’ll have a nice, well-kept community!

The board approved the addition of Mar Cheri signage to be placed on the other side of the Dash Point entrance.

The board approved the re-caulking of the pool tile and replacement of the pool heater gas lines. Cost estimate: $4500. Both will be completed prior to opening day of the pool.

Recreation – Nancy Krueger
Opening day has been scheduled for Saturday, May 28 and will be open weekends only until June 20th. To encourage new associate members, will be hosting a “Come see the pool & swim for free day” on May 28th. Members are encouraged to invite their friends and family to come enjoy the pool.

Letters have gone out to all associate members, encouraging them to sign up for this season. As a reminder, cost is $275 per associate member and $3 for each visitor.

One roof was submitted for consideration and a letter of approval issued.

Larry has passed the torch to Mark on pool maintenance. Many thanks to Larry for his contributions! Work parties have been tentatively scheduled for May 7th and 14th. Look for more info next month.

As suggested at the annual meeting, Mark is going to investigate getting the Mar Cheri signage placed on the other side of the Dash Point entrance.

Opening day has been scheduled for Memorial Day weekend and will be open weekends only until June 17th. To encourage new associate members, will be hosting a “Come see the pool & swim for free day” over the Memorial Day weekend. Look for more info about this next month.

As a reminder, now that spring is here, trees and bushes are growing and may be blocking your neighbor’s view. Many thanks to all of you who have already trimmed your foliage!

Sherry also received a complaint from one of our neighbors concerning our waste and recycling containers. He indicated that he is very tired of looking at his neighbor’s containers. The containers are left out and are frequently never put away.

The covenants state that trash/garbage shall be kept in receptacles “hidden from view.”

As a reminder, the containers sitting on the sidewalk or street are unsightly and certainly distract from the visual appeal of our neighborhood. Ideally, we should all be more considerate of our neighbors and put these containers away after collection on collection day.

Website Update – Vicki Bengeult

Vicki has been hard at work getting the Mar Cheri website (www.marcheri.org) up and running. You will find many resources there, including pool info, meeting minutes. She is also setting up a feature that will allow neighbors to connect in groups and share ideas and information. Vicki will be giving us a tour of the new website at the next meeting.

The public area of the site is currently available. Look for information on how to register for the members-only features in the next newsletter. If you have digital photos or ideas for features, feel free to email Vicki. The official webmaster email is: info@marcheri.org. Thanks!

Help! We are in the process of updating the Mar Cheri directory. If you’d like your email address added, or if your information has changed, please email updates to info@marcheri.org. If we don’t hear from you by early April, someone will be visiting each household to verify the current information. So if you can spare a minute to let us know that there aren’t any changes necessary, we won’t have to knock on your door in the middle of dinner hour.

If there is a babysitter, pet sitter or lawn mower in your household who would like to be featured on our new Baby Sitter, Pet Sitter, Lawn Mowing Listings page in the printed directory, please also let us know about that, with appropriate name, phone number, and any other details you’d like included.
